Once you get too close, the lack of decent grain in Lightroom is really obvious! RNI and Mastin were kind of uncanny valley though - they tried to try really close to specific film scans and it made them look less convincing to me somehow. In Lightroom I always liked VSCO since they got the general character of the film whilst being generally useful tools, and Replichrome were underrated too! I don't use presets much in weddings but for fashion etc it's the quickest way to get the feel of a specific era or style for sure. I think that argument's rubbish though - film looks really really handy as a quick stylistic choice that by nature feels natural. I think there's an element of that snobby 'real photographers don't other people's presets' thing going on, since C1 tends to attract mostly professionals and serious users? If you come across any others I'd love to hear about it! Ive modified one to use on portraits (making it my own) and use a B&W to give portrait clients a B&W. Nice but I certainly wouldn't call it film emulation and again, I don't think the price is justified. The official C1 film pack is a big pile of generic grading looks that're pretty easy to achieve yourself. Generally good fun and tons of usable options, even if they're not really that close to the actual films. It seems like companies making great presets for Lightroom struggle to get the same level of quality from C1?ġstyles feels like quantity over quality, they're very simple and rather strong looks but there's a lot of useful stuff in there, especially now they're layer compatible which lets you dial it back a bit). Recreate film looks from Mastin Labs directly in Capture One with these custom. There's some nice looks in there (the vintage ones especially) but overall I found it a bit underwhelming, especially for $148! They make all sorts of weird adjustments all over the place and many looks have an unpleasant HDR-ness to them. The power of Capture One meets the global leader in film emulation presets.

RNI kindly sent me the full All Films recently after they made a false copyright claim on my products. I bought a small pack for about £8 but they don't seem to have that option any more. The Classic Preset ones are quite nice and do a very reasonably priced little pack (but annoyingly not layer compatible - I converted them myself and offered to send them to the creator but he didn't seem interested unfortunately). Seeing how 'meh' they were war the trigger that made me decide to package my personal looks and try and sell em online :D They released them without them being layer compatible, which seemed really amateurish for the premium prices they charge. Gotta admit, I thought the Mastin ones were horrifically overpriced and not all that impressive.
I got frustrated by the lack of good film styles and ended up making my own, as someone here mentioned.
